Earth Hour

With No Comments »

This had me scratching my head (nothing new) wondering what safari setting I’d mistakenly flipped.

nightgoogle.pngUntil I read the footnote, turns out the UK version of google have turned their lights out to promote Earth Hour, they want everyone to turn their lights off for an hour between 8 and 9pm, guess I’ll have to line up a load of candles?

On this page they stress that silly notion that a lot ppl still bring up saying that setting google to black will conserve energy, and you have to be pretty dumb not to realise that that would only have been true during the CRT era. Hmm, although I wonder if it would also be true of LED backlit screens?

Google Spreadsheet’s in time

Google Documents and Spreedsheet, meet Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time and other garbage.

Waaa Waaa!  Google have gone nuts, or has my browser?  One of the two have, maybe both.  You can’t get any closer to having Safari 2.0.4 than having Safari 2.0.4 can you?  Ah well, I loaded Firefox and tried it in there instead.  It is all stylish and pleasent on the eyes like most of Google’s services but I don’t think I’ll personally use any of it.  I was interested in using the spreadsheet because I still haven’t got a good spreadsheet app on my mac, they’re either bloated and take an age to load, like Openoffice/Neooffice or they are some unusabliy limited freeware effort.  I can’t seem to be able to figure out how to do certain things with Google’s spreadsheet though, things that are must have features for a spreadsheet.  For instance how do you complete a sequence of numbers?  Usually you can just type say “1″, then “2″ and “3″ and then drag select them and then expand a box in the direction you want it to complete the sequence.  I just can’t seem to do it in Google’s.

I’ve gotten my mitts on Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time for my DS Lite.  It’s spot on fun from Nintendo and surprisingly eventful, constantly surprising things happen.  I love it!  I’d describe it as a light-hearted cartoony final fantasy, you walk around colourful maps occasionally being pulled into step-based fights.  It’s got quite a sense of humour too, in my last playing session I came across 2 Kooper Trooper’s who had been fitted against their will by alien probes and the probes were making them speek in l33t.  Seriously, they called my characters n00bs and said things like w00t and pwned. lol nintendo aren’t trying to be hip with this, they’re taking the piss out of the culture. lol

Lastly, Arrgh I want me’s a Nano Product Red!  Actually, I want a pink nano but i’d risk being beaten up for having one.  But the Red one is defo’s the next best thing and you’d be doing your bit for charideee.  But arrgh, for some reason it isn’t appearing on the UK apple store site, it’s on the UK Apple site but not the store.  Grrr.

EyeTV Hybrid please

I need to go on a publicity drive, yesterday Social Meter was all the buzz and just go a look how unpopular my blog is lol. I’ll still carry on blogging, and I don’t think I even mind that much, but it would still be a nice if someone read this damn thing.

Hold on, it’s in even more of a state than it was yesterday, there was just under 100 google links, now there’s none. Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t take that thing seriously.

It’s a good day on the MAMPtel front, mysql.org have finally made available universal mac versions of all their tools. Previously the Query Browser was only PPC and it had many a bug when run through rosetta. They’ve also now tied up all the tools into one download, they don’t even seem to offer them individually anymore which is odd.

I’m stuck on Zelda 3. I’ve reached the dark world, and there’s this eejit boss who wears some kind of head armour you have to bash with a hammer, it’s driving me mad, I just know I’ve come close to chinning the bastard but that just makes it all the more annoying. UGH, games!

Stick Pic1I am so so so so so so so so so tempted to get an EyeTV Hybrid. As I’ve said before i’m sure, freeview reception is still in a dire state in Sheffield but we do plan to move soon, and also it’s only a matter of time before the reception is improved, although we might have to wait for analogue to be shutdown. Anypoop, the hybrid looks great, you just stick it in a USB port exactly like the EyeTV 2 for DTT, and has the same great (or so i’ve heard) software but it supports both Analogue TV as well as Freeview. So I could get it now and put up with analogue until I can pick up freeview. And I’m kinda desperate because I don’t have a TV of my own at the moment, nor do I want one ruining the feng shui or whatever you call it of my room, mind you I’ve put up without for this far and it is kinda a nice feeling not to own a TV.
Another useful thing, it also has composite/S-VIDEO input so I could use it to play consoles. I’m really looking forward to the Wii, but I won’t have anything to play it through so this would probably do the trick quite nicely. Oh course, it won’t be HD (is the Wii even HD?) but I don’t care that much.

Anyway, yeah, I really really want one but I can’t find it anywhere except this one place who seem to be over charging for it by about 20 or so quid. I guess I need to wait for the other stores to get them in before bargains can be sought.

World of Goshcraft

On a whim, and to balance out the favouritism I made a slight addition to google’s firefox promotion. What d’ya think? Possibly a bit cheeky? The typeface isn’t quite the same, but I don’t think i’ve got whatever it is they’ve used, a kind of condensed sans-serif with a squiggly ‘g’, hmm.

Been one of those nudeness kinda days… no not nudeness, nuisance. A nuisance kinda day. Eddie had a dose of worming tablets and it didn’t seem to agree with him. Strange because he’s had them before and they’ve never upset his stomach previously. He puked up all over the living room. He could have just got it all out in one go, but he had to make 4 or 5 little sick patches spread apart. Thanks Eddie.

Also irritating, for the first time in ages I really really really felt like having a good long game on warcraft but the urge just had to coincide with the day they choose to have major server issues didn’t it? They always take the servers down for maintenance on an early Wednesday morning, to be complete by 10am GMT. Only today some of their servers failed to come back to life, including the one my character resides “The Venture Co.” It still isn’t up. Damnit. I’m pretty sure they’ve never been down for more than a few hours previously, so it must be bad :-(

2. Re: 30/11 - Weekly Maintenance | 11/30/2005 2:37:07 AM PST

We have encountered technical difficulties with bringing the following realms back up: [...list of 12 servers...]

We are working hard to solve the issue, but the severity of the problem has resulted in these realms having to stay down for further maintenance. We expect them to be up around 14:00 (Paris Time, UTC/GMT+1).

3. Re: 30/11 - Weekly Maintenance | 11/30/2005 5:33:10 AM PST

The issue encountered earlier has proven to be more difficult than first predicted, and we will not be able to bring the mentioned realms up at the time we first hoped.

We apologise for the inconvenience we know this is causing a lot of players. Our technical department is working very hard to fix the issue and they hope to have it solved by the end of this afternoon.

Wel the end of the afternoon has been and gone. Humph. These are the european servers i’m talking about btw. I don’t think it’s even possible for us to connect to the american ones.

Still no game. Incidentally this is the error message you get when you start the game. Anyone else see a slight problem with it? Yah, when exactly did the 3 hours start? Haha. People seem rather ticked off on the wow forums. Along with the usual people who try to use every situation to blag freebies, oooh oooh ooh can I have a free month for this?? Can I can I?
