The Film…
a 1964 film adaptation of the Roger Peyrefitte novel Les amitiés particulières directed by Jean Delannoy. The plot revolves around Georges de Sarre, a fourteen-year-old boy who is sent to a Catholic boarding school in 1920s France. Georges starts a “special friendship”, i.e. a friendship with homosexual overtones, with a twelve-year-old student, the beautiful Alexandre (Alexander) Motier.

My Thoughts…
My word was this film difficult to track down, it doesn’t seem to have ever been released with english subs, at least not on DVD. Believe it or not I ended up watching it on YouTube split into 18 parts. Crazy!

This film has some parallels with Romeo & Juilet. Only where the forbidden factor of their love being entirely different and it is incredibly touching (I say that too often). What probably makes this tragic love story even more affecting is the incredible and joyous charisma of the kid who plays the younger boy. I also feel respect for the older of them for not showing any sign of shame, and for freely talking about his love with a friend of his own age.

The ending kicked the air out of me, twice infact, but I’ll try not to spoil it. Ugh, it all seems so unfair.

The Film…
Cachorro (known as Bear Cub in English-speaking markets) is a 2004 Spanish gay-themed (in particular, the gay Bear community) drama film written and directed by Miguel Albaladejo. It is about a bearish gay man who ends up looking after his nephew while his sister goes away to India and in turn makes him develop a fatherly bond with the boy as well as forcing him to alter his lifestyle. My Thoughts…
This film explores quite a bit, including a fair few sides of gay culture without getting muddled at all. It attempts to put right some mis-conceptions about gay men bringing up children. I especially liked how the boy simply didn’t care about what his uncle got up to and as is typical is a lot wiser than a lot of the adults. Which makes me wonder, what age is it that people start seeing things that are different as being wrong? Ah well.

The film doesn’t flinch at all from what the “bears” can get up to, ding-a-lings et all, which is really strange considering the general tone of the film. But I guess, the whole message then should be… why should any of it matter?

The other day gaygamer received a video in which gay xbox live had compiled footage of homophobic abuse they had endured over a 24 hour period.

There isn’t really much I can add that hasn’t already been said, but I’ve just now been reminded of it whilst playing WoW. This has literally just been uttered in the guild chat…

Unfortutely this is pretty typical in Wow “gay” is probably the most frequently used derogatary term used in the game and you generally can’t escape a session without seeing or hearing it at least a dozon of times.

It can be quite depressing depending on whether or not I’m feeling thick-skinned at that moment.

Gaygamer was DoS’d last weekend.

Bit late with this one, but i’ve been busy OK!?  Apparently, at first it seemed like some silly kid doing some lousy DoS attack for kicks, flooding them with pings and all that, but after a while it was apparent they weren’t going to stop and eventually they started noticing hate filled rants on their forum.

I find this quite scary because I had rather hoped that the internet blogging community were quite a liberal bunch, but if a quirky gaming blog can receive homophobic attacks then nowhere is safe right?

I’ve been immersing myself in Sigur Rós recently. Loved their stuff for years but I actually knew very little about them other than being icelandic and having a gift for producing hauntingly beautiful music.

The renewed interest is all because someone posted a video promo of theirs on a gay torrents site I sometimes linger around. It’s the video to quite an old song, off their 2nd LP Ágætis Byrjun. Anypoop, I watched this vid and OMG it immediately became my favouritist music video ever! In it this kind lad feels bad for this other lad ‘cos his meanie father flings his 2 dolls into the sea, obviously doesn’t want his son to become a nancy. The kind lad retrieves them and later reunites them to the other lad whilst getting ready for a soccer game, then the climax, during the game the 2 lads, during a goal celebration find themselves kissing. It’s touching, beautiful just all round awwww. You can watch it on youtube. But of course it loses something in the youtube picture quality, it’s still beautiful though.

I then go wandering around to see what other tidbits I can find, I get hold of a live gig. It’s actually available for streaming on the official sigur rós site, but I found a better quality copy. So I’m watching this gig and I’m thinking, gosh she really does have a lovely voice even live, then a little later after a close up I’m going “Holy fuck, that’s a guy!”.

Sure enough it is, he’s affectionately called jónsi (shrugs) and he’s gay! Woohoo, and so so cute! And so so such a genius! And has such an amaaaazing voice! And so I’ve gone completely girlly over him.

I’ve replaced the Stupid page with a Podcast page. I know the Stupid section was pretty irreplaceable to some of you ppl, don’t worry you can still get to it here, haha. Actually, I’ve made a bit of a pigs ear of the podcast design, well that banner doo-dar. What was I thinking? It’s barely readable. Ah well, if I wasn’t so lazy i’d clean it up a bit. I registered my podcast with Apple so that I could add a Subscribe in iTunes linkette, this means that someone at Apple has heard my god awful music. Haha, I feel so ashamed!

I’ve been giving some thought as to what would be the best language to write a new app in with regards to it being cross-platform. There are so many variables to consider that it has sent my head spinning. I’m going to have to jot down the pro’s and con’s some time. Hmm, I started writing this paragraph and then decided I feel too exhausted to go into detail. lol I’m not going to delete it though because I don’t like to be wasteful, our worldly resources are finite you know.

I went to my second poofter club yesterday. It’s funded by the NHS, did I mention that? And this is what all them taxes are going towards, we spent the whole time sat around talking about how annoying it is when you order stuff online, things like the postmen not giving you enough time to even run down the stairs. Haha, something tells me this is going to take some time.

Just finished the Archiving chapter of Hillegass’ cocoa programming book and i’m not even half way through yet! It’s getting a bit deep, or maybe i’m too tired. It’s actually eating away at my very being, all I can think about at the moment is programming cocoa. I don’t know who to blame, hillgrass or apple, or NeXT.

Yeah I’ve sod all interesting to say. Now i’m wishing something would happen in my life worth writing about. I might be going to some group for gay ppl soon thats run by gay sheffield. Is that interesting? Doubt it.

Oh neato, just seen a commercial for an LG 3G mobile that uses one of my favorite autechre tracks.

Just returned from seeing Rufus Wainwright and OMG he is so fucking hot! I swear I almost came and was that close to jumping him. Does that sound bad? There was 2 dreamy dreamy moments. Firstly they’ve souped up one of my all time favourite songs “The Art Teacher”, with some bluesiness that really works so god damn well. And then, just to make me go crazy, half way through ‘old whores diet’ they all run off with some backing track going and run back on in biblical costumes and rufus pretends to be nailed to a cross. And then they go into “The Gay Messiah.” Haha I love anything that takes the piss out of the bible but this was special.

The negative side to it all was that I had major, and I mean major anxiety about going out today. It was intense and I had to spend the afternoon in bed with my head throbbing and my body all pins-and-needles like, with that whole butterflies thing in my wee tummy to top it off. All because i had a gig to go to. That really isn’t on is it?

He said sheffield was a lovely little town. Which didn’t go down at all well. Firstly, it isn’t lovely, but mainly because it sounded pretentious, but gez, since when did canada have huge towering city’s? Cheek making sheffield out to be quirky.

When I awoke from a deep slumber to hear on the radio that the church had changed their position on gay priests I figured it may be a good day after all. But then the presenter continued to tell us that it’s just a re-wording of the same old bigoted dogma. They’ve worded it ambiguously so that on first hearing it it sounds like a more modern, open stance but really it isn’t. The more I read about it the more it sounds as though the church are suggesting that homosexuality is a disease that you have to be cured of first before you can be ordained. WTF?? I’m just relieved that the church no longer holds any powers, nor even any position of authority.

So in the end i’m having a miserable day after-all, I’ve run out of the non-drowsy anti-histamines so now like the walking undead, not alseep but not awake either. Ugh, maybe its my punishment.
