Ordering stuff on the net sucks

Yeah, I’ve decided I’m giving up on the whole internet purchasing affiar.  Savastore still haven’t recevied any of the NAS drives from LaCie, and the LaCie website still says “Late October”, yet they are still, a week into November advertising just “Pre Orders” on them.   Grrr.

EndoScene - 10 I also ordered Ableton Live 6 Upgrade from some place called absolute music solutions, I’m pretty sure they had them listed as in stock when I ordered, but after a day of it not being shipped I took another look and now they’re out of stock and now I seem to be stuck in the same situation as the NAS drive.  I’ve been waiting freeaaking ages, and the weirdest thing with this one is they have sent me the “paid” invoice through the mail, I’ve always gotten the invoice in the box before.  So that can’t be a good sign.
Best of all, an ebay special.  I won an auction on a 40-150mm lens, actually it was the 40-150 plus a 14-45mm, which is the kit lens I already have but I was just going to sell that one, either way it was a total bargain so I was totally joyous when I won and paid immediately.   But today I received an email from paypal telling me the seller rejected my payment!  They haven’t given a reason why, and the seller still hasn’t replied to my email which roughly read “WTF!!!?!???!??!.”

Ugh I’m so pissed off.  I can see myself having to use the ebay buyer complaint form very soon, and I betchya they do sod all.

Cheap-ass Tits Up

I love the Apple Keyboard to bits, it has in my opinion a perfect tactile feel, a good compromise between noisiness and jellyness. But, it’s also a good example of Apple design that absolutely has to be treated with kid-gloves if you want it to stay looking prestine.  It has a translusent case, which looks great for the first week and then begins to show everyone your eating habits and problematic hair lose.  I’ve only had this particular specimin a few weeks and look at it already!  Hey, that photo was of the whole keyboard and I cropped it to an inch of its life to show the yuck and it still looks clear, despite the knockers I love my camera, imagine the damage I could do with a macro lens!   Actually, I want a telephoto lens before a macro, the most affordable but still OK four-thirds (thats the standard of lens my camera uses) is 200 quid, but the couple I’ve watched on ebay have gone for the 120 quid mark.  Mmmm, still not an impulse buy.  damn.

I had already lost a bit of blogging fever because my cyclical in style depression is looming around the place, it’s really annoying, at the moment I’m waking up thinking to myself “ooooh, I fancy working on that coding project I’ve got going today” and I spring out of bed, read my webfeeds and then take Eddie for a walk.  Then when I get back and sit at the comp something comes over me, everything slows down… no thats not right, ugh you see this is the bit I find impossible to explain.  But yeah, my mind clouds over and I sit here for some minutes and then think to myself “fuck it, i’m going back to bed.”  Still, at least it isn’t bi-polar, did ya see that doc Stephen Fry made about it?  Twas fascinating.

So that was the first reason for bloggy slackiness but then my Cheap-assTM hosting went tits up.  They had fireworks from a hard drive and it turns out they don’t have much in the way of mirroring going on… that’s why it’s Cheap-assTM.  Felt like days passed before I could post anything, and even when the site came back the databases took a further day or 2 to be restored.

And to make things even more irritating they haven’t restored one of my databases properly, my listmania one where I catalogue shit, and is now a pretty damn vast database has been restored without the UTF-8 encoding intact.  So all them foreign films have now got titles like “La Vie Un Gar^&$son, Mons^&£@^n”.  I’d email Cheap-assTM to restore it again… properly, but I figure the chances of them managing it now are probably nil.  So I’m just going to have to go back to the last version I have of it locally, which is about a month old and merge them somehow.  It’s most annoying.

Micron Masters

Micron MastersI fancy upgrading my iMac’s memroirs to 2GB, I fear it would be an improvement to certain scenarios, particularly when several large apps are running via rosetta (some eat up memory like clients with their slappers (???)). So yeah, I took out the stick of RAM which I might add is SO freaking DIM! In order to check the brand and shit, took a picture of it too as you can see. Took a while to figure out the brand because I only had a never seen before logo to go on. Turns out its by Micron, who it also turns out are the same people as Crucial. I guess Micron is the company and Crucial is the retail brand, they probably think it sounds hip and MTV-like. Problem is Crucial charge an absolute fortune for this particular spec, 117 GBP, which is only around 20GBP less than Apple themselves charged when kitting out the iMac.

Reason I would prefer to get the same brand is because quite a lot of peeps say you should always match brands when using 2 or more sticks in the same machine. But d’ya know what, I reckon they’re just talking bullshit, I bet they’re sys admin dudes who always have their employers paying twice what they should for the company’s IT dept just because they’re techno snobs. Anyway I found this at Scan, it’s exactly the same specs as far as I can tell, but its over half the price! It’s out of stock at the moment but I’ve ordered it anyway. We’ll see.

I’ve really fancied getting a graphics tablet for quite some time, don’t really need one but i just really fancy giving one a try. Problem is they aren’t really “giving it a try” type prices. It’s all because there’s only one company making them, Wacom, so they can basically charge what the hell they like, and because its mostly profitable design firms buying them they get away with the inflated prices. Only A6 sized tablets are anywhere near affordable. I would really only want an A5 tablet but they cost at least 140 GBP. Wacom have an A6 tablet with a retail price of 75 GBP, the Graphire4. So anyway, in one of my weird impulsive moods I discovered a slighty older model; Graphire3, still only A6, but going on ebay so I gave a conservative bid and ended up winning it. Was only 35 GBP, bet yers I never use it though. haha.

Silly sod

Everyone is pissed off today. Including me.

I have never had much joy with Ebay, to me its like gambling, it all just causes giddiness, stress, hysteria, then depression and ultimately suicide. I for some reason suddenly have a sudden desire for a digital SLR camera, it just seems to me that whatever model, whatever brand and however old, whatever MP digital slr’s always come up with better looking images than other breeds. You would have thought that said cameras would have been kicking around for long enough that would find some second hand bargin, i wouldn’t mind if it had been mistreated and scratched a bit as long as it still worked. But no, I can’t find any on ebay that go for less than 450 quid, even old discontinued models. Sucks, nearest I got was an old digital rebel/300D, but that ended up at silly money. Then today an EOS 20D was going great until the last 10 minutes when the price doubled. Grr.

And to top it all off, I got arrested in the game oblivion but was for something that I must have done quite some gaming hours previous so I had to have my butt thrown in jail and lose some character attributes. Then, just to rub it in I caught vampirism. Arrgh. I am SO PISSED OFF.

Hmm, I still haven’t removed that boycott sony badge, even though they sacked the guy responsible for the rootkit fiasco and I no longer care. But still, I can’t find it in me to be bothered enough to actually remove it.
