Let the beer flow

The blooming flowers (pun or not i dunno) and hyperactive weather are making me feel a little hit and miss. Lots of sneezing making my head feel cloudy and buzzy. But worse my skin feels terribly terribly thin, like tissue paper. Makes it prickly and sensitive and very tickily, if someone were to just touch my arm at the moment I’ll bellow “hahahahaha get owwwwfffft”

Most days are hit and miss but not saturday, that was all round hit. Whatever happened to jukebox jury. Anypoop it was Arctic Monkeys day, my brother+wife+lesbian came over for it but first, due to my brother being a liverpool fc nutcase we went to watch the game in a pub. We found a sports bar type affair in town that i hadn’t been to before. Turned out to be a bit of a find, can’t remember what it was called but it was above the forum. Has a large student union feel to it, and they’ve got a freaking huge projection going on. Anyway, the game was awesome, I thought it was going to be stalemate, 2 titans both going for it but somehow we sneaked a couple of goals in. Oh and an amazing freekick.

The gig was a strange affair at first. The Magna centre haven’t quite got the setup quite right for shows, well, i remember it being quite well organised for the nye event a year or more ago, but this was terrible. You couldn’t get a beer for love nor money, this is a big venue, sold out and they just had 2 lousy make-shift bars staffed by snails. As people got more and more desperate the beer started changing hands like cigarettes in a prison.

Ah but the Arctic Monkey’s were sooooo goooood. Every song they come out with seems to work perfectly live, and he’s got such a great voice for gigs that travels far far up and away. Of couse though, with them only having only 1 LP and 1 or 2 EPs to play from you were left wanting more.

Severed Hands

I haven’t written anything in 2 thirds of a lifetime. Actually, today at least I feel genuinely good about things, therapy seems to be going in the right direction at last and I’m filled with an air of optimism. Mind you, if I analyse it too closely i probably would discover that it’s ‘just a feeling.’

I was paid more than I expected for my PC repair by duress, so I guess that’s the silver lining. Oh, and my brother has managed to get hold of tickets for the Arctic Monkeys in Rotherham’s magma centre, sounds like he had to really battle for them so he’s back in my good books :-) Should be potent, the magma centre is a really bizarre venue, on a usual day it’s a large science museum complex. The only other time I’ve been was for a Christmas spectacle, or was it new years eve, anyway lots-o-bands played including royksopp, and pulp’s last ever gig. Oh and there was a Warp stage, which was fun. It was cold as thunder though. God that seems like years ago.

Installed IE 7 beta 2, and my first impressions are a thumbs up. They’ve fixed the problem with my fruit salad bubbles and I’d like to think that was in response to my own personal plight. It seems very peculiar at first because they’ve done away with the menu bar, similar to the vista style they’re going for. I’m all for getting rid of the menu above every single window, but somehow it looks all wrong. Maybe in time… Oh one neat feature i’ve noticed, in the RSS view it lists all the keywords/categories/tags it can see in the feed and shows the relevant entrees (food haha) when you choose one, well I think that’s pretty damn neat. Haven’t had a good fiddle with web standards yet, but all in good time, sir… All in good time.

And that’s all the weather.

UPDATE:
IE7 uk.msn.comuk.msn.com has seen better days.

Best LP’s of 2005

Better nate than leather. Finally decided on the best LP’s of 2005, but I bet you a couple of daffodils that I change it some time. So anyway regarding the british isles it appears that Sheffield has beaten Newcastle, who in turn have beaten Birmingham, and all 3 have beaten the ass off Leeds’ naff effort. Muwahhaha. Ugh, what a terrible image I’ve made for this. Sorry about that.

  1. Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s …
Well rock me out ours boys have done it! The lyrics are so funny that i’ll collapse in laughter, but the beat will soon grab me back up. And I still have yet to see the buggers live.
  2. Maximo Park – A Certain Trigger
Spent the whole year at the top of my list and are then beaten at the last moment. Shame.
  3. Rufus Wainwright – Want Two
This guy is infectious in every way possible (yes probably including that way too).
  4. Editors – The Back Room
There’s something wow-some and dark about this LP, it’s pretty disposable too but somehow that doesn’t matter.
  5. The Organ – Grab That Gun
I think this is a few years old in some countries but hay ho, i love it to bits. It’s a bit like a more rocky and interesting blonde.
  6. M.I.A. – Arular
Totally addictive um… english dance-hall? is it? dunno, I barely understand a lot of it. Haha
  7. The New Pornographer… – Twin Cinema
How do I describe this one? I can’t, its sort of glammy, and prog-rocky. That must make it sound terrible, but it really isn’t!
  8. Ladytron – Witching Hour
    Electro-pop rules!
  9. Sigur Ros – Takk…
As does strange psychodelic chilled out weirdness from europe somewhere.
  10. Doves – Some Cities
Some beautiful things going on here, good ol’ down to earth british indie, ya can’t beat it.
